Brajrajpur. One of the major pilgrimage sites in South Bankura.
In the year 1051( বাংলা ১০৫১ সনে ), Mathurananda Goswami, grandson of Sri Maddas Gadadhar of Sri Chaitanya Parshad, entered Dhalbhum. Then Dhalbhum king Jagannath Dhol was initiated into Vaishnavism by Mathurananda Goswami. Gaudiya Vaishnavism was introduced in Dhalbhum. In the year 1052( বাংলা ১০৫২ সন ), with the help of Dhalbhum king Jagannath Dhol and under the supervision of Mathurananda Goswami, the temple of Lord Shyamsunder was built. King Jagannath Dhol divided his kingdom into three parts. Khatra and Ambikanagar Parganas were created, Raja Jagannath donated a part of the kingdom to Rajguru Mathurananda Goswami, and Brajrajpur was established.
A book written by Perth Sarathi Goswami, a descendant of Mathurananda Goswami, a resident of Brajrajpur, was published by Yeh Prakashan on the history of Brajrajpur Leela, construction of Brajrajpur by Lord Sreesanth Shyamsunder.
